I bought this hat for a trip to Mexico. I have a large head and have difficulties finding a hat that fits me in the U.S. I ordered L/XL and it's large enough that I can put my hair in ponytail and still wear this over it. The string is not adjustable but I just put it inside if I don't want it around my chin. When I went on a hike in a strong sun, I wetted the hat to keep my head cool. It dries pretty fast so you would have to keep getting it if you want to keep it cool.

This hat appears to be very well made but it is very large with no ability/mechanism to to tighten it up.

Hat worked as advertised, my husband loves it. To make it fit I unstitched the band at the back of the hat and resewed it tighter. There is a bit of a fold at the back but it fits properly now and keeps him cool.

The large/xlarge is a perfect size and fit for a tall 6'4" man with proportionally sized head. For reference, I usually wear an adult, male, adjustable baseball cap set to the last two notches. Would prefer one notch larger but the ball caps are not designed to just use the last notch.It also has ample room to smash on head down to ears which is the way bucket hats are meant to be worn. It does not have a drawstring so it may not be suitable for sailing but I wore it on a brisk bicycle ride today and worn so the brim did not catch the breeze, it stayed securely on my head.Always been a big fan of Columbia brand boonie/brimmer hats. This is similar or better quality plus it takes up less space so it is easier to jam in a pocket. I compared brims and the built cool hats brim is only sightly smaller. When worn correctly down by the ears, the sun protection is quite good.For sports, this hat is probably better for walking, running and hiking rather than tennis because it is meant to be worn low so visibility is low. You could certainly make it work a bit for tennis if you flipped the brim up and wore higher. For higher speeds like bicycling or sailing, I would recommend another hat specifically designed for it.I am active and hard on hats. This hat is perfect for my lifestyle since it is portable, lightweight, breathable, and designed to be washed in a sink and hand wrung out.To all those complaining that the large/xlarge is too big, it is not so quit ruining it for actually tall, large size men and buy a size appropriate for you. Fat typically does not accumulate around your skull so, if you buy large clothes because your are husky, don't assume your hat size is the same. Also this is a bucket hat specifically meant to be worn low so it will be roomier than most hats. For most men, the medium hat would likely work and for women the small.I like the hat so much that I just bought another one so I can keep one at work and one at home. It is hard to find well designed hats so this was a lucky acquisition.
