If youre not an expert for networking equipment, dont even bother and stay away from Mikrotik. But if you are into command-line based configuration FROM SCRATCH, than Mikrotik is your friend. You can do a lot of things with Router OS and nowadays ChatGPT o3-mini can provide pretty good help but still, the comfort of just using an UI and setting up a few things is not the Mikrotik-Way.I was coming from TP-Link Omada (but have an background as CCIE) and for me being used to Cisco CLI, it took still a little getting used to, its not as flexible as Cisco and also not as easily accessible (I find Ciscos CLI rather intuitive tbh, more than Mikrotik, but on the other hand, this device costs 1000 times less than a small Cisco router.Once IPv6 Fastrack will be available in ROS7.18 im hoping to get full 1GBit line speed on my two WAN connections. For now only IPv4 is going full Gigabit, when the traffic is rather constant.What is exceptionally:the router only uses 2.7 Watts for idle operation and rarely exceeds 4 Watts under full load.The only thing I hate is the lack of proper PoE support. I dont understand Mikrotik why they just dont stop using the NON-standard passive PoE that is not support by ANYTHING on the market. So you have to use a PoE splitter to power the device (or just use a 12V plug). Would have been $1 more to add a proper PoE chipset.

I have one of these at each of our remote locations and they are easy to manage, ultra reliable and just do the trick. Can't beat it for the price.

This provides great information for network connections. I did run into one serious problem: when connected directly to my Verizon FIOsS ONT, downloading (Rx) was at full speed but uploading (Tx) was anemic - about 2% of Rx speed on what should be a symmetric connection. When I connected an UNmanaged switch to the ONT and connected my Hex device to that, everything worked flawlessly. So that’s how I’m operating - and writing this review. The cable from the ONT is a long run, but it’s within spec and other routers have had no problem. I haven’t investigated enough to see if it’s really the cable at fault or some buffering issue between ONT and the Hex (playing with Hex settings didn’t help). This was enough of a head scratcher that I don’t recommend this router for casual users. But casual users can probably get by with something much simpler and cheaper anyway.

I replaced my TP-Link Omada router with this do to security concerns with TP-Link routers, and my particular router was at EOL. The Mikrotik was the best choice for what I needed as speed and security for my home network. It is probably not the best choice for those who have little or no experience configuring networking equipment. This is especially true if you are planning on making changes from the default configuration. I have 21 years experience programming Cisco networking equipment, and as another reviewer commented, "it took still a little getting used to".

Der MikroTik RouterBOARD E50UG hEX ist so wie er von Amazon geliefert wird auf dem europäischen Markt nicht zu verwenden. Die Lieferung erfolgt mit einem US-amerikanischen Netzteil mit NEMA-1-Stecker und ferner fehlt auch eine CE-Kennzeichnung.Eine Regulierung über den Amazon-Support war nicht möglich, es wurde eine Rücksendung und Rückzahlung vereinbart.Der E50UG mag sicher fein sein, mit einem US-Netzteil ist er in Deutschland aber nicht zu gebrauchen. Das man ein Gerät erhält, was in Deutschland auch betrieben werden kann, daran scheint Amazon nicht gelegen zu sein. Es ist auch aus der Produktbeschreibung nicht ersichtlich, dass das Netzteil hier nicht zu gebrauchen ist.

Kein Einsteiger-Router, sondern eher ein Router für spezielle Anwendungsfälle.Diese beherrscht der Router am Ende gut.Leider erfolgte in meinem Fall die Lieferung mit einem US-Netzteil. Wer jetzt denkt man kann problemlos den PoE in als Stromversorgung nutzen, wird leider auch enttäuscht.Zumindest an meinem Cisco-Switch sg350 PoE funktioniert das nicht.Die Probleme mit der Stromversorgung sind daher verantwortlich für die schlechte Bewertung, eines eigentlich guten Produkts.

Ich bin vom Funktionsumfang des hex begeistert.Wofür habe ich den hex ursprünglich gekauft?Ich bin seit längerem dabei zu überlegen wie ich eine VLAN Umgebung in mein Heimnetz aufbauen kann, da ich Smarthome-Geräte gerne von anderen Services und Netzwerkgeräten trennen möchte. Mit einer handelsüblichen Fritzbox geht das nicht. Habe zwischenzeitlich schon andere Router u.a. von Zyxel mit integriertem Supervectoring Modem getestet, aber war nie von den Geräten überzeugt. Der Mikrotik war die letzte Wahl bevor ich mich an eine DIY gemacht hätte.Warum bin ich begeistert?Das Gerät kann so viel mehr und ist im Vergleich so günstig wenn man es neben andere Hersteller stellt.Ist es für jedermann geeignet?Ich würde sagen nein. Man muss schon IT affin sein und bereit sein sich in RouterOS einzuarbeiten. Es ist keine plug and play Lösung. Auf administrator.de und an anderen Stellen findet man aber viele Tutorials und Hilfestellungen.Was ist das coolste am Router?Winbox! Das Administrations-GUI ist klein, schlank und genial. Es kann das den Router via MAC orten und es auch ohne große Subnetzkonfiguration administrieren.

Good: performant, compact, professional, affordableBad: OS/web box GUI to learn / need a technical comfort level.Using for home/home office. I like separate hardware for public facing ComCrap, vs internal home Wireless Access Point(s). Replaces a dead Ubiquiti EdgeRouterLite in that role. It's my first "tik".Hardest part of install was OS; Gaining comfort w/ their downloadable GUI config tool, web box. I am a little technical, but absolutely not a router/networking person. That is to say, I can usually work out/configure technical stuff, given enough time, trial & error, a little bit of dumb luck (and a boat load of Utube/google/etc).OS was one tick behind, so I updated. Changed login. Ended up taking most of what came with their default config but added a few tweaks. Honestly, NAT and good firewall rules fill out 90% of my needs. Embarrassed to say how long it took for me to even verify/work that out. But it's nice to know that at a relatively cheap price point, I have options.This is not a router for your Mom who needs an idiot proof GUI. This is a router for a geek or even for a small sub net location managed by a professional. It's probably overkill for home needs, but hoping that provides stability and future proofing
