Worked like a charm on my 2.5 4-stroke mercury

To my surprise this very inexpensive carb works perfectly on my 2.5hp motor. I took apart tbe original one twice, cleaned, removed jets etc and could not get the old one to run properly. It wasn’t even dirty! I gave up and decided to try this Amazon carb not expecting much but it runs like a new motor now ! I hope it lasts. Tempted to just buy a backup one to keep on hand.

Der Vergaser funktioniert auf anhieb. Das Material ist nicht so robust wie das Original, dafür aber preiswert.

I work on outboards. Tohatsu makes mercury And Nissan outboards under 30 hp then they slap another sticker on it . Number one cause for running poorly on these little engines is no gas flow. Inside the large gas line on the left side of the petcock is a little filter . If you take off the hose you will see it and can pull it out with small needle nose pliers. This is a design flaw - it has super small mesh probably 500 and lets almost no gas through after It shrinks in the gas . Remove it and throw it away. Also the petcock has two plastic fittings one for the 3/8 hose on the left which contains the filter and a smaller 1/4 one On the right going to the carb. The small one on the right is adequate. But the big one is not . I removed the petcock and removed the small screw and pulled the inner valve out to work on it - the side with the 3/8 plastic nipple which accepts the big hose has a 1/4 inch plastic nipple attached to it - This was where that little filter attached to-I took a fine hacksaw blade and cut the 1/4” part off the end. And to my dismay the hole going into the petcock was even smaller - probably only 3/32. Another design flaw . So I carefully took some small sharp drill bits and reamed out the hole stepping up in size until I got to 3/16. But be careful because the bits will go through the plastic nipple fast and you don’t want to damage the other inside wall of the petcock because it is all plastic. Then make sure it is burr free and reinstall the petcock valve and rubber seal inside and screw. Also the red petcock Knob is a joke because it has a small black coupler that is notched on both sides - one side connects to the knob and the other to the petcock valve .and it will break when it becomes brittle- then you will Turn the nob and it just won’t open the valve. Another serious design flaw especially when out in the ocean on your sailboat. I took some pliers and yanked the Red gas know out the bottomRemoved the plastic coupler and threw them both away. Then turned the actual petcock upside down in the motor compartment and can now access it from the top under the cowl and can manually turn the valve with my fingers. I also marked it with a sharpie so I know when it is on .With these tricks your motor will be super reliable . You probably don’t even need this carburetor. As I have fixed many . But it is good quality and good to have a Spare just in case. Especially if you travel the worldAnd have one on your dinghy. Also when not in use drain the Tank by removing it - and carb float bowl - that small black screw on the bottom . These little carbs don’t like having gas in them for very long - it turns to varnish and gums up all the jets and the float assembly in the bottom . When you need it put in a fresh spark plug dcpr6e ngkAnd some fresh gas and it will fire right up and idle good maybe only adjust the idle screw a little . These are great little motors but the petcock knob setup was a joke from the start not to mention the filter inside the hose ? And the even smaller 3/32 hole In the petcock body. Hope this helps!
