For hot packs, I use the one with no holes. I heat it up for 20 seconds on high and use it for about 15-20 minutes, then massage around my eyes and wash around my eyelids. They are effective in reducing soreness and puffiness. I usually have sore eyes and tear up sometimes, but after using the hot pack, my eyes feel less sore for a few days. I try to repeat heat pack every other day. When using it cold, the zip bags that came with them are useful to prevent them from getting freezer smells, but they are so hard to open that they got stretched the very first time I tried to open them. so don't close them too tight. I like that one side is soft fabric, but I would have preferred that it came with soft fabric bags so that I could wash them and keep them clean after every use. The straps are nice and tight, but the plastic attachment comes right in the center if my head, so I need to sleep on the side.If you are using the eye pack hot, heat up the room-temperature eye pack. The first time I heated them up, both of them were in the freezer. I took one out and left it on the kitchen counter for about 30 minutes before heating it up, but the fabric side was damp after heating it up and not very comfortable.

These are nice masks. I ordered them to use cold, as I suffer from chronic migraines and find ice packs to be very helpful in controlling the pain. The set of two that I ordered included one full mask that covers the eyes and one with holes cut out around the eye area. The mask with holes is so helpful when I need to get some things done, but I'm not quite feeling 100% better. If you want to use the mask warm, the instructions recommend heating it for 20 to 30 seconds on a medium-high power level. To cool the masks, the instructions recommend placing them in the freezer for 30 minutes or in the refrigerator for an hour. I regularly have stored other gel-bead masks in the freezer, but I noticed the instructions for these recommended keeping them in the fridge to have them ready at any time. I will follow those instructions to prevent any damage to the masks, but the coolness from the refrigerator isn't quite intense enough for me. So, I guess keeping them in the fridge will just give the cooling process a bit of a head start. When I need one, I can always wear one from the fridge while I wait for the other to get cooler in the freezer. You also can use either side of the mask, depending on the temperature intensity you are seeking. The flocked fabric side provides a slight buffer resulting in a less intense temperature, while the plastic side will be colder/warmer. I generally prefer the plastic side, and I feel it's a little more hygienic as you can just wipe it clean.

So these work perfect for me. I put both in my freezer and leave them there for when I need them. When I get a headache, I decide if I want to close my eyes and lay down or keep watching TV - for the price, getting two is awesome. Plus, it means if one warms up too much, you can go swap to another. At first I wasn't too pleased with the soft lined back because it 'wasn't cold enough' but that is apparently cause I welcome ice burns to my face- bad idea. If it doesn't feel cold enough at first, put it on and give it time, it does end up cooling a lot more and is safer that way. In the end, I love these.

The cooling eye packs are well made and I appreciate these are two, otherwise I forget to put it in the freeze, this way there is always a fresh one when I want it. A cover would be nice as it is too cold right out of the ice.
