I am somewhat of an expert on salad servers. I've gone through so many, asked and received for Christmas gifts many years, and had almost given up until I finally bought these. Delicate salads require slim tools. You don't want to go into a salad with thick, mallet-like servers, damaging the leaves. They should be long, and again slim, in my opinion, because when there are many guests, the salad is sometimes massive and served in a deep bowl. Wood doesn't work because, though attractive, you cannot throw them in the dishwasher night after night. (I've two small children and every second I can spare from handwashing is precious.) Finally, though I've had many sleek, long servers, they were always too narrow and didn't grip the salad (to get a decent portion, it could take up to five attempts, while everyone else waits patiently). These servers have wide, and perfectly callibrated bowls, one with that hole so you can drain off dressing if you like, or let the stray piece of arugula stick out. So you can actually grab a lot of salad in one go. In short, whoever designed these is a genius and clearly eats a lot of salad.
