My niece is getting into rock tumbling, and she's planning to polish up all those cool beach stones she's collected over the years. Sounds like a fun project! This National Geographic grit kit seems like a solid starter set, giving you a good amount of all the necessary grit stages to take those rough finds to a shiny finish. The fact that you can reuse the grit if you're careful when pouring is a nice little bonus.For anyone else thinking of getting into this, definitely heed the warning about potential mess – that polishing grit is super fine! And if you've got younger kids joining in, keeping an adult around is a smart move. Turning those beach treasures into polished gems is a cool way to relive vacation memories, and this kit looks like it has everything you need to get started. Can't wait to see how those stones turn out!

Overall it's a decent price for ALOT of 4 stage tumbler grit, one of the included scoops is good for about 1/2lb of rock so there's easily over 100 tumbler runs of grit included.Do not pour the grit or finished tumbled solution down the drain or into waterways, it can be disposed of outside in a small hole as it is all natural.You can use this with any tumbler that is designed for a four stage grit roller.Stage 1 shapes the stones.Stage 2 smooths the stonesStage 3 refines the stonesStage 4 is the finish polish. After this stage you can hand polish or wheel buff the stones for further refinement.A great value but it's alot of grit for easily 100 or more tumbling sessions. Make sure you need this much before purchase, but otherwise highly recommended.

I have tumbled rocks on and off for the last 45 years or so.The grit here is good quality.Make sure you have a place to rinse your tumbling chamber and rocks.Gravel or dig a small hole to fill in afterwards are good places.NOTE: Do NOT Ever rinse this into your residential drains as it hardens like concrete anywhere it has a chance to dry.You should sort your rocks into those of similar hardness or the softer ones will be ground to sand and dust by the harder ones. Please read you device's instructions.This is the typical 4 STAGE polishing system.First stage Coarse Grind for shaping the stones.Second stage smooths the stones.Third stage is the Pre-Polish which prepares for final polish.Fourth stage is the "final" polish stage in the tumbler.Your rocks will look good now but if you have a polishing wheel you can buff an even smoother shinier "wet look" to the stones.You should be able to use this with any similar style rock tumbler to the National Geographic one.Great value for this amount of tumbler grit.

PRO's:• Uniform grit size in each of the 4 stages• The grit is effective and works well in the small drum roller style tumbler.CON's:• The stage 3 and 4 grit is very fine and the bottle tops were not fully tightened, so there was some loss when first opened as it had worked its way through the threads of the top.

This Blue Marble National Geographic Rock Tumbler Grit & Polish Refill Kit has a lot of grit.There are enough supplies in this kit to polish over 20 lbs of rocks with four progressive grits.The grit is good stuff, probably the same as what came with your tumbler, silicon carbide.With this, you can polish not just rocks, but also glass, gems, or other specimens.This is a nice refill kit with quality grit from a reputable source.The quantity also makes it a good value.
