When hiking in winter it's a very effective insulator to keep my neck warm without getting itchy or damp, and slip it into my pocket when I don't need it. The fine wool makes it much warmer than my other buffs, and it's less bulky to carry than a scarf. I wanted a brighter colour to make it more visible at night, but most are pretty dull shades.

Farbe sieht top aus, anfangs leicht gewöhnungsbedürftig, aber inzwischen finde ich sie super. Funktion etc ist gut wie gewohnt.

£11 for a merino neck gaiter is pretty good value - December 2024.I'd read reviews here and was concerned as to whether or not there has been a drop in quality over the years, or that the fit has changed (too tight or loose) but that's not my finding having owned a buff merino lightweight tube for at least a decade. My previous tube is still going strong, but a second one is always good for when the first gets misplaced or is in the wash.The docked star is for the irritating label - just as irritating as the last one I purchased a decade ago and snipped off very precisely.For those not having tried buff or merino before:- unlike my original purchases of manmade fibre neck gaiters, merino doesn't stink after a day or two of sweat, and doesn't stink after lots of washing.- if wearing it as a face mask from neck to face, it does get loose after a few days. A wash with wool washing liquid tightens it up again.- the longer length of the buff over other brands allows for different styles of wearing depending on activity, need and how cold it is. Around the neck, neck up and over the nose, pulled over the top of the head, top of the head then twisted and doubled up, and from the neck and pulled up from behind over the top of the head (admittedly you look like a dork this way, but if you are indoors at home it works until the heating kicks in).- the lightweight merino is very fine so I have another brand of heavyweight merino that is half the length so can only be used over the neck, and only in colder weather, which its great for. Just recognise it's a choice you can make for your own intended use/preference. Doubling up the buff and using just as a neck scarf is not as good as a heavyweight merino when it gets cold as the wind gets through.- Wool makes my neck itchy. Merino does not. I've heard cheap merino can make some people itchy. I've not experienced this issue with buff or woolpower.Overall, if you have the style to pull off this maize colour, or just want to try out merino or want an indoors hat, bed-hat, scarf, or something to keep your hair out the way when cooking, then £11 for something that should last a good 10-15 years like my last one, then its a good buy.
