Admittedly, I'm a big Clover fan so when I happened to come across this yarn winder, I sat on it for a few days because it seemed so expensive but eventually decided to just buy it. And how happy am I! I have a Knit Picks one and also one from Hobby Lobby but they both drive me insane for various reasons. Firstly, with this Clover version, you don't need to screw the holder thing (like you do for Knit Picks) to then screw the clamp thing - all you have to do is screw the clap holder to a table- already a win win! And I managed to create a ball of 3.5 oz / 175 yards no problem. And it the winder seems so smooth! I swear I could wind forever with this. Don't think about it, just do it. It's worth it.

A bit expensive though soooooooo much smoother to wind than the cheaper ones. Good investment if you can afford it.

I know you can find a yarn winder for less money, but I always end up preferring Clover notions and tools over the other cheaper options. For some reason, their products are always just "better" quality and design. I'm willing to pay more for a better item that will last and be better qualityI love this yarn winder, it is smoother and faster than my cheaper one that wore out

This winder is super smooth and clamps onto my desk wonderfully. I upgraded because my KnitPicks winder was very squeaky and shaky (but made amazing cakes without fail). So I am extremely saddened that I am struggling to make even one cake on this winder without a bit of fiddling. I'm not sure if the tension rod is placed weird, or if the middle part that holds the yarn is too short... but my yarn always leaps out of place while winding and I have to stop and unwind a bit to fix it. Very annoying since I need to slow down and fix it once or twice per skein (I cake up about 10-15 at a time multiple times a week).I really want to love this winder because it feels so nice and smooth and I will keep experimenting, but unfortunately with it being 3x the price of the Knitpicks winder it's only maybe a little bit better. I will continue recommending the knitpicks winder instead.Update: Tried contacting support directly letting them know my issues and they followed up with asking me what I meant by a cake. I answered and then never got any more support even after sending a follow up.
