I always hated the original plastic covers. I love that these feel more solid and adds a little bling. Installed very nicely. The tool was great with one minor issue. The magnet isn’t extremely strong and fell off inside my cranks. Had to fish it out which took a minute. Could be improved by putting a flange on the outer edge so it can’t slip through all the way. Even with the tool issue I’d buy them again. Very satisfied.

I admit that this looks nicer than the Shimano cap. The stock is made of plastic and weighs 3.6 g. This one is about double the weight. So, if you install this for the bling factor, you make your bike a bit heavier.Note that the whole purpose of this cap is to preload the bottom bracket bearings. It needs very little torque - it just have to be finger-tight. After this, the crank fixing bolts are tightened and the cap does nothing - it can even be removed with no loss of function. It's the same principle as the top cap on a threadless headset. So the plastic used by Shimano is completely adequate in this application, there's no need to make it stronger or heavier. Personally, even though I got a couple of different alloy caps to compare (they weighed in at 7.0 and 9.8 g), I'm gonna continue using the OEM plastic cap.

Colurful securing cap, more durable than plastic caps. Apply just a film of synthetic grease to prevent the threads from getting clogged with silt from riding in the rain.

Tool works fine but the covers are open ended and will allow dirt and moisture into your bottom bracket. They look nice but should be closed. Threw them in the bin and put the old Shimanos back on for now.
