My now 26 year old Weber Go-Anywhere was in need of a new cooking grate, being the original wire that I could no longer keep rust-free. The fit is perfect, but being cast, this grill grate is heavy. Nearly doubling the weight of the grill, making it now a go-almost-anywhere grill. The trade off being better heat distribution and retention. Now that I am older and not hiking into places with it as often, mostly just camping, the compromise is well worth it.The grate seasoned well, brushing with peanut oil while heating to the smoke point on my gas grill. The result was a nice nonstick seasoning. I have found I need to wait a little longer for the grill to come up to temp and keep the regulator lower than I normally would. The result is a beautiful sear and more even cooking, like I would get on my full-size grill. If you have the original wire grate and have cooked hotdogs, you surely have lost one or two down one of the giant gaps at either end of the grate. Well, bonus, this grate solves that annoying quirk, giving you complete coverage of the cooking surface. If you don’t rely on the low weight of the original grate for portability, this is a very welcome upgrade to the original wire grate.
