We got this for Mum and Dad who are in their early eighties. Mum really struggles and has done for some time with most things that need a certain amount of hand strength and dexterity, Dad has had Carpal tunnel surgery on both wrists so this USB rechargeable electric can opener seemed like something that would really help both of them.I have to be honest and say that I had my doubts that this would be a winner but I was proved wrong, I guess I think of can openers as something that fails on a regular basis. As a kid all the cans needed a can opener and I guess the average can opener had a hard life and hence a short life! As it's turned out this electric can opener has been a great help to Mum and Dad and so far it's been reliable too.Five out of five stars for helping Mum and Dad and for being reliable.

It does the job fine. The only drawbacks are that it doesn’t last long before it needs recharging and it’s quite noisy.

This really does open a can at the touch of a button, and for someone that has long term problems with my joints, it's a godsend. I can use a manual can opener, but it's always fiddly and a little painful. With this, it's just a matter of placing it on top of the can and pressing the button. So far it's worked with all the cans I've tried it with, and it's easy to use. In a perfect world there are a couple of things I'd change about it though. The first thing is that it's a bit bulky and takes up a lot of space in the kitchen drawer. The second is the single button control mechanism isn't as simple as it could be. I think it would be improved with a simple forward/backward rocker switch, or something that only activates when the button is pressed, because stopping the motor and releasing the lid can be a bit unintuitive. I think an older person might get a bit annoyed with having to press and hold a button for a set time, rather than a simpler control mechanism.
