German Reproduction Brown leather K98 Mauser Rifle Bayonet Frog.
The German Wehrmacht had in the early stages of the war producuced two types of bayonet frogs. One for unmounted personnel without retaining strap and one with the addition of a retaining strap for mounted personnel.
As per the regulations of January 1939 the bayonet frog without the retaining strap was to be discontinued and replaced by the bayonet frog with the horizontal retaining strap.
However as with all items and kit changes throughout the war, the supply of these frogs was haphazard and did not always make it through to soldiers, examples of these frogs can be seen in photos throughout the war.
This is a reproduction of the second pattern frog with the retaining strap for the bayonet handle.

I got this one cuz it seemed better quality than some other ones (i think it is) however when i opened it up the color of brown was like a lighter brown western holster that was a bit glossy, if that makes sense and not really a darker brown as shown in picture.but hopefully with time the color will fade and some dirt will change the color to a more realistic toneand yes it fits perfectly for my m48 yugo bayonet

I liked the overall quality and detail of the leatherwork. The item is genuine leather exhibiting a natural uniform medium brown color with brass rivets reinforcing stress points.
