I was dog sitting for 2 weeks and the lab I was walking is 10 months old and pulls a lot and using a harness dogs tend to pull with their whole being and it is very hard work trying to stop it.After looking on YouTube videos I noticed a dog trainer recommended a slip lead like this one so I ordered it with the intention of trying to do some training to help alleviate his pulling. It was an almost instantaneous change. For a start he never really wanted the harness on so it took a few minutes to get him to allow me to do it but with this lead he just let me put it over his head. Great start!Once we were out he does switch sides a lot so I gave up on the idea of putting the lead on as either a P or a q shape depending which side he walked on, instead I'd leave it fairly loose but not so loose he'd slip out of it easily. If you don't know what I mean, putting the lead on as a P shape from in front if the dog means you'll walk it on the left and a q for walking on the right. (could be vice versa but you'll see once you do it). But if it's a bit looser, it doesn't matter.I can't tell you how easy it's been. He automatically started walking closer because the lead would pull and it would prevent him from pulling as hard as he did before. It's been a revelation. The picture doesn't do it justice as most of the time he walks slightly ahead and you can hold the lead with it resting on 2 fingers. The dog owner, my ex wife, had asked me to try a hilti lead but I knew the dog would not like that one bit and when I tried turning this lead into a figure of 8 lead he wasn't keen so I just used it as a slip lead. When she came back from holiday she carried on using it and it's now a week later and she's just texted me to say the lead is a 'game changer' . She's delighted. So for anyone with a pulling young dog, give it a try and see for yourself. But for me, I'm extremely happy and would highly recommend it. The rubber stop on the lead is excellent as well because it's very tight and doesn't just slip on its own. Great lead, very high quality and has a bit of stretch too. Excellent.

The start of this review has a pretty long story, because it may help another owner with similar problems. If you just want a general review, skip all the way down to: 'SO...WHY DID I BUY THE FIDA SLIP ROPE DOG LEAD?'My puppy came to us at around five months and hadn't been toilet trained or walked enough. She was prevoiusly crated a lot of the time, as her behaviour was out of control, so taking her for walks was a real chore, as she just jumped and pulled and wriggled the whole time. I don't even have the words to describe how bad she was. It was like she had an eight week old puppy's brain in a big, strong body. She cowered a lot, as she was scared of going out and then freaked out at the slightest noise. She couldn't even handle going in the garden, as her paw pads were still very soft and pink. Every step, she would lift each foot as if it was hurt. The vet sold me a harness, which connected to the lead in the middle of her back. I found myself crossing roads with her and lifting her up like a shopping bag just to get her across safely. She darted in front of me, side to side...the harness did not work and she slipped her legs out constantly. A Halti drove her mad, so that was taken off very quickly. Not being a small puppy anymore, it was really hard to keep control and, if you've ever rehomed a neglected dog/puppy, you'll have probably suffered the judgemental looks from people assuming you have no idea what you're doing.I invested in a very, VERY good harness, that I will also be reviewing (OneTigris Tactical Dog Harness), which she cannot slip out of. This connects nearer to her neck, but we still had the pulling, now with added jumping along in front of me on her back legs like a kangaroo! She was doing fairly well on the new harness. However, after an interfering passer-by wouldn't leave her alone, whilst also trying to educate me on how to completely train her in a five minute street lesson, he accidentally squeezed the lead connector and pulled it open. She got loose by a main road and it was lucky she was so interested in him, as she could have died that day.Her lead is a very good one and the connector is very bulky and stiff to pull open, but if someone keeps fussing your dog and won't stop squeezing the fur and flesh around their neck and shoulders, I know from the above experience that it can be potentially fatal.SO...WHY DID I BUY THE FIDA SLIP ROPE DOG LEAD?Well...all of the above is why I flew home and logged straight into Amazon to look for a collar that is not detachable from the lead. No more accidents.I initially bought this so I could have the harness attached as usual, with the added protection of an all-in-one collar and lead. However, the choking effect was really awful, as my puppy pulled so hard it was strangling her. She was not responding to the tightening at all.I quickly tried her with the figure eight adjustment, with the slip ring at the back of her neck, and the transformation was incredible. Slipping it over her head and twisting it to make a loop for her nose is SO easy to do. She quietened down immediately and walks have been a breeze. She still pulls a bit and gets excited, but I can now walk down the street with her trotting nicely by my side 90 percent of the time. She even sits down when I'm talking to people for too long, instead of constantly leaping and rolling in the air.She hates having it put on, but loves the walks...and I still have the added protection of a separate lead attached to her harness. This new lead is longer and thicker than the other, so I pull the lead through the handle to make a loop and that one goes round my forearm, while the harness lead is the handle that my hand goes through and grasps. I can easily grasp both leads and control her, using each as required.I have seen people hold a handle in each hand. I can't do this, as it's too fiddly and she is a strong puppy, so the two leads together is easier to control. If she needs pulling back into check, I can reach over and tug the slip lead...and a quick tug on the harness lead, or both together, pulls her up off the ground when she's shaping up for a roll in a pile of duck poo!One gripe is that, although it stays put on her nose and doesn't roll back anywhere near her eyes, the whole lead is so thick that the place where it crosses under her neck pushes into her throat more than I would like. However, now I have tried and succeeded with the figure eight, I shall be purchasing one that has a ring in place of that crossover effect. She is not a huge breed (just strong), so bigger, stockier dogs may need the extra bulk.In hindsight, a slimmer lead might have been more comfortable as a figure eight, but as a general slip lead and introduction to the figure eight design, it does an excellent job. It is also very useful when we need to quickly slip it around her neck or nose when visitors arrive etc.I recommend this slip lead and do not regret purchasing it in a panic! I am still using it over a month later without problems.

Slip lead concept takes a little getting used to for dog and owner, but both now fairly content! Very important to fit correctly - need to consider on which side of the owner the dog walks. There is a lot of elasticity in the lead, which isn't all bad. This does cause a problem with the stopper. When the dog pulls, the lead stretches, which makes the lead noticeably thinner. The stopper is some kind of leatherette with no elasticity. So when the lead stretches and narrows, the stopper becomes very loose and slips towards the dog. When the tension comes off the lead it widens again, so the stopper sticks where it has slipped, so the lead remains very tight around the dog. This is really poor design, the stopper should be elasticated so it still grips where you set it regardless of the lead tension and thickness. I don't use the stopper at all now. It is bad design for the inexperienced user when this feature doesn't work and risks hurting the dog.
