Unlike others, I had no issues with this product but I can see how you can break the universal swivel joint if you over tighten, especially if you have the rod close to a 90 degree angle. That is just not how universal joints work and even the instructions say that you need to have that rod at something other than vertical in the boot.I used this on tall leather motorcycle boots, where getting that rod at something that was not vertical was pretty tough due to the height of the boots. But I was still able to get it to work and was just gentle with it and patient. I did not use any spray since my boots had a waterproof inner liner, but I did soak them in a bucket for several hours. I also rubbed some alcohol on them while I stretched them out. These boots had a tough rubber toe protector (which was not recommended in the instructions) and I was still able to get the toe box stretched out after two rounds of stretching. Use this method at your own risk, but it worked for me on my specific boots. Highly recommend the product as long as you understand the limitations and not try to twist the rod like your trying to free up a rusted bolt. As an aside, I actually tightened the rod counter-clockwise. I was able to get it to open a bit wider.

This product is very well madeIt has more pinpoint metal buttons than I expected and the location holes on the block are perfect for nearly any type of problemThe crank handle is long enough for my 15 “ high top western boots and the U-joint worked at every angle from 90 to 180 degreesThis product appears that it should last for many years and work without any problemsI would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a good quality product and the price is not outrageous

Bought two and one broke on first use. It was stuck inside my shoe and very difficult to remove. The other is still working.EDIT: After reading my review the manufacturer refunded the price of the broken one and I ordered another one so now I am back at a pair so I can stretch both shoes at the same time again. Upped the rating to 5 stars for this.

Product is well made and should last a lifetime. I was expecting it to be made in china, but was pleasantly surprised when printed on the box said made in Taiwan. I would rather support any country other than communist china. The spot stretching plugs are large and worked well stretching/widening the first shoe. The only complaint I have at this point is that the directions say to turn the handle clockwise to expand the toe block. The one I received closes the toe block when you turn the handle clockwise and opens when turned counterclockwise. I will call the company and ask if this is correct. I will update the review at a later time. I called Foot Fitter and found out that the stretcher was shipped with the screw advanced too far. When I was on the phone, they had me turn the handle clockwise continuously until the toe block began to open. Now it works the way the directions say.

Followed the directions to the T (also used the boot stretch spray) and was unable to stretch out the tight spot enough to bring relief to the side of my big toe. In fact, I repeated the process twice but ended up with the same results.P.S. Before purchasing the Footfitter boot stretcher I called Footfitter and spoke with a rep who was extremely helpful in recommending what he thought was the right stretcher for my needs. Bottom line is I'm gonna give Footfitter a call to see if they can help me figure what (if anything) I'm doing wrong.
