Well executed for a modestly priced, 8" dovetail backsaw. While the tooth pattern is cross cut, it cuts very well with the grain too. The saw plate mikes at 0.021" and the kerf set is 0.023", which is already very good and it cuts straight (when I do my part, of course). After my initial "Out of the box" test, I did do a Paul Sellers set-up trick by laying a piece of painter's tape on the saw plate, just barely above the tooth gullets, and give the edge of the teeth a gentle swipe (heel to toe) on my 1200 grit diamond sharpening plate - first one side then the other. I also rub paraffin wax on the saw plate. Now it cuts like a dream.Yes, there are things about saws in this price range I'm not totally happy with; the saw plates are apparently epoxied into the solid brass backs, which means if you ever bend, let alone kink one you may never be able to properly repair it. The saw handles are o.k., but need improvement in both angle of approach and contouring. [You Tube has videos for that.] All in all, I'm a happy camper with both this and the other 10", 12" and 14" ones by the same maker I've bought.By the bye, they appear to have been made for them to their specifications by Lynx-Garlic & Son. A practice also done by Disston in the United States. ("House Brands" I believe they're called.) Same plate thickness, depth of cut, saw back, tote/handle and saw nuts. Only difference seem to be in the number of teeth in some models, the amount of kerf (more in Footprint, less in Lynx-Garlic & Son) and the finish coloration. So, "For A Few Dollars More", you pays your money and makes your choices.

I decided to buy this item after purchasing a different make which was blunt out of the box. Footprint is a good name in tools so purchased this dovetail saw which arrived sharp and does the job nicely. I already own a set of footprint chisels which I’ve had for around 45 years. Back to the saw it feels nice in the hand and i find it accurate cutting. Pleased with this item

Super scie pour faire des queues d'arondes parfaites à la main. La scie est bien affutée est coupe très bien le bois. La scie n'a pratiquement pas de voie ce qui permet d'avoir une coupe bien nette.

The saw plate is nice and heave as is the thick brass spine, which keeps this little saw very straight and provides the weight for cutting without using force. For a dovetail saw, it should be sharpened well. Does not seem to be the case as the saw starts poorly and leave a ragged cut. Handle has an atrocious paint on it and while it is shaped after antique saws, the ergonomics are no where near the old classic saws.
