The Godox AD200Pro II AD200ProII TTL is described as a pocket flash; you will need big pockets to carry this ~ 8 x 24 x 6cm strobe, and a sturdy belt to hold them up as it weights 923grams.The good news is it comes in a hard carry case that has a pocket for the strobe and all its accessories, and you will need some of them. The flash is designed for off camera use; so, doesn’t have a Hotshoe to mount it directly to your camera. It does include a mount to attach it to a lightstand pin, or you can screw a tripod plate into it.Being an off-camera flash, you need a way to control it; you do that with a ttl cable (not included) or a trigger. I used it with Godox’s XPro ii trigger which automatically connected to the flash. The unit can work with some camera manufacturers own triggers; I haven’t tried that.If you are using a cable release the flash has a good colour screen on the back, that is just readable in harsh October sunlight that allows you to set complex flash settings, power (up to 200watts) and strobing if you are getting more than one you can also set it up to be in groups on the menus; which thanks to the colour screen, and a colour led on the side can also be colour coded which is handy for recognizing which one is doing what. Usefully the flash also has a beep mode to indicate it fired which can be useful at times. The 200w output isn’t going to work on a sunny beach but is great in October for adding some light into scenes. The kit includes two flash heads; both offer bright 1400w model light mode with variable white temperature adjustment; there is an option to have the brightness match the flash output too.) These are easy to swap out, the slide off the flash and back on. There is a reflector style head which is great for use on its own and adds direction to the light; and an open head that sprays light in all directions that could be useful if you use the flash with a Softbox (though you will need an adaptor that isn’t included for that.) The bulb for the open head is stored inside a glass cover which stops your fingerprints causing issues with it; I found it a bit tricky to insert and remove it from the housing (and you need to remove it to store the kit for transport.)Using a trigger, you can set it up for most flash settings including HSS, TTL, First Curtain and rear curtain sync. It can go down to 1/512 power (at which setting you can do 99 strobes at 99hz.) The strobing rate drops down as the power goes up. The highest power setting you can strobe is ¼ where it can do 2 flashes at whatever speed you want. It’s easy to setup the strobing modes on the flash thanks to the scroll wheel which makes changing settings very easy. The flash seems to have great thermal management; and the battery pack isn’t holding it back, as I was able to take 53 full power shots with fast recycling times before the recycle time went up. The battery is charged in an included recharger rather then via the flash (which has a usb-c socket for updating its firmware.) You can charge the battery up from a wall usb adaptor or a powerbank. It is rated for 500 shots which I’m guessing is. Warm temperature. In a Leicestershire Forest on a 14C day it managed 323. The battery charges back to full in 4 hours; so, if you need a lot of shots on a shoot I would get a spare; or the external battery pack. If you are using the modelling light it can last around 5 1/2 hours in a 20c room. The AD200 Pro II is a 200w functional powerhouse for a reasonably compact flash. It’s not pocketable but it is easy to transport in or out of its protective case. The battery life is good; it would be more useful if it could charge quicker. You are going to need some kind of release for the flash as one isn’t included; be it a cable or wireless release. The strobe’s modularity means it can grow with your photography needs as Godox offers several accessories for it allowing you to switch to a macro ring light, work with soft boxes or barn doors, snoots or get faster refresh rates with the external battery pack.

This is definitely a professional piece of kit, and probably wasted on an amateur like myself, but I'm unrepentant about that. It's called a pocket Flash, but you'll need big pockets for this one.Joking aside, this is a hefty piece of kit that comes with it's own carry case. There are the two bulb attachments, that are easy to swap out as required. In the case you've got the battery, charging cable and charging case, USB plug, the flash body, the speedlight flash head and the bare bulb flash head, holder mount and instruction manual. The manual is in depth, and comes in 2 languages, Chinese and English, which runs through set up and the functions available. The flash itself has a screen on the rear where you can set all of your preferences, such as colour temperature, brightness, delay, duration, and everything else you could imagine to get that perfect studio quality picture. You can mount the flash directly to a tripod, or via the provided mount, which provides greater flexibility in how you position it.Pairing with my camera was relatively straightforward, although being an older Nikon, it was a bit more fiddly, but that was down to my camera, rather than the flash, as I didn't have any issues at all pairing it with my dad's Canon.Really, this is wasted on me, it's got more options than I could possibly need, but it's given me the impetus to get back in to photography, and learn new things, so given time, this could be a good investment for me.
