As far as run-n-gun flashes for small setups or backup usage, I cannot recommend this enough. It's tiny, light, powerful, and even includes S1 and S2 modes. The rest of the deal is, as expected, barebones - there's (obviously) no IR focusing; nor does it talk to the camera at all, so you'll need to manually cap your shutter speed whereas other flashes will do that for you. But you truly cannot beat it at the price point - the only remotely close competitor I can think of as a Canon user is the 270EXII, which will run you more but does have the ability to tilt up. But if you are happy with this just doing direct / fill flash, you can't get better value, and something like the 90EX is just fully obsolete thanks to this tiny, well-built little wonder. My only frustration with the flash is that it does not have an on/off switch, rather a button you have to hold for 2-3 seconds in order to toggle it on or off. A small gripe, and likely not even an issue for most use cases where you won't need to toggle a flash unit quickly. Apart from that, I just wish Godox would sell the diffuser caps separately, which I either missed or were not available when I ordered.

I bought this flash for my vintage Canon Rebel 35mm camera due to the on unit flash not working. I have 3 vintage Canon film cameras and a Nikon DSLR that I'm going to try it with as well! So far I'm very happy with it. I taped a piece of index card over the flash as a diffuser, as many have noted here it's quite bright. I thought that might be a helpful tip for others shopping this unit. This is a manual flash which means you will need to learn a bit about manual photography in order to get the lighting just right.

First, when I took a few test shots it felt like there was too much light on the lowest setting and the photos were white washed. The closer you are to the subject you have to darken the exposure on your camera settings to account for the light output and their complexion, voila perfect photos. I have the Sony ZV E10, it slid right on and off easily. It takes 2 AAA batteries, it’s small enough to fit in the case, and it works for its intended purpose for the price.

Even in the lowest setting this flash is too bright. They should have atleast made a diffuser for it.

The flash height when mounted on the hot shoe can cast a shadow in the frame. I had a 24-70 2.8 mounted on the body and with or without the lens hood, the top part of the lens was visible with a semi-circular shadow in the bottom part of the frame. Using a 50 1.8 with a short barrel, the shadow completely disappeared. I suspect this flash would be better suited to smaller cameras with minimal protruding lenses.
