I’m unsure what kind of deception is being played here?I will explain I do understand that I’m Molcajete is handmade traditionally so there’s gonna be some variants in size. However, the description of this says it is a 7 inch flat bottom with an 8 1/2 inch diameter and 5 inches in height I will attach pictures and as you’ll be able to see mine is barely 3 1/2 inches in height. And actually just ever so slightly under 7 inches in diameter the workable bowl itself close to 5 inches and not very deep. The weight is off by quite a bit also.Needless to say I am beyond unhappy and I don’t believe anybody should buy from this company. There’s some shady deception going on here. And my children are very upset as they saved up quite a bit of money to purchase this for my birthday.

This Molcajete is a really nice tool. Once properly seasoned, this thing rocks. Mine does hold liquid after seasoning, and I was able to make a flavorful salsa without excessive seepage. It looks really charming on the kitchen counter but would also make an impressive art piece if you are not into cooking.

This Genuine Handmade Mexican Mortar and Pestle (molcajete) is a solid addition to any kitchen, bringing both authentic character and practical functionality to your food preparation.Pros:- Authentic handmade construction- Excellent for grinding spices and making salsas- Develops seasoning over time- Attractive piece for kitchen display- Durable natural stone- Good size for most usesThe craftsmanship is immediately apparent in this handmade piece. Each one has its own character, and the natural stone construction feels substantial and durable. It's clear this is a genuine article, not a mass-produced imitation.Performance-wise, it excels at traditional uses like making salsa, guacamole, and grinding spices. The rough surface of the stone provides excellent grinding capability, and it actually gets better with use as it develops seasoning over time. The size is well-thought-out - large enough to make a decent batch of salsa but not so huge that it's impractical to store. It also makes an attractive display piece when not in use.Cons:- Requires initial seasoning- Can be quite heavy- May shed some stone particles at first- Takes time to clean properlyLike any traditional molcajete, this one requires proper initial seasoning before use. This involves grinding rice to remove any loose stone particles and preparing the surface. It's a bit of work, but it's worth the effort. The weight can be surprising if you're used to lighter kitchen tools. While this speaks to its quality, it might not be ideal for those who prefer lighter utensils.Cleaning takes more effort than modern kitchen tools since you can't just toss it in the dishwasher, and you need to ensure it's completely dry before storing. This molcajete brings real authenticity to Mexican cooking and is particularly great for those who appreciate traditional kitchen tools. While it requires some initial effort to prepare and maintain, the results in terms of texture and flavor make it worthwhile. It's a solid investment for anyone serious about making authentic Mexican salsas or who enjoys using traditional cooking methods.

This is a solid molcajete and I will trust their claims on origin and materials. It definitely seems handmade as the tejolote seems to be somewhat asymmetrical and also has one larger chunk missing. It doesn't seem to really impact function other than there is a spot that things can get caught in.Getting it ready for use was pretty easy and I just followed instructions found online. The bowl is a bit shallow for me. It works for salsas but for guacamole it's a bit of a challenge not to have it slide out which is a disappointment as that's one of the primary uses I planned but it's just a tad too shallow. It's way more shallow than one ones used at some of my favorite local restaurants for guacamole. One major consideration for me is the size and weight and material texture. You will want to have something under it if you have anything remotely delicate. I could easily imaging this marring granite countertops. For me, a wooden cutting board works well as a base. I think I'll cut one down closer to the size of the molcajete and probably route it out so it fits inside for a more polished look.Overall it's nice and looks mostly like the picture, but reading some of the other reviews and my own experience just emphasizes that there's some variability since it's hand made.

This is my first molcajete after wanting one for a long time. I have great visions of myself making large quantitities of guac in this. I got the one without the legs which is better for the "grinding" operation (as it sits flat on the table), but isn't as nice looking for serving. The product is *heavy* - clearly chiseled from a block of stone. And its super simple - a stone bowl, a stone pestle, that's it.It comes with decent instructions, and the first instruction is to season the bowl with a ground up combination of rice and salt. I'll say have a much greater appreciation for our ancestors now after seeing what they had to do to grind stuff up in these things. Its hard work! Bits of rice everywhere, and probably 15-20 minutes to get the rice ground down to a powder. After that, I wish the instructions said if you are supposed to rinse or wash it out? I'm not sure - I rinsed and now fear that I washed away all my hard work but we shall see.Anyway, after the seasoning, it works great - big enough for a decent amount of guac, and more fun to use than a regular bowl or blender.
