This is my first time trying a home phone cutter, and so far I like this one. It's pretty basic, but comes with a few good accessories. And while not the highest quality I've used, it's pretty good, and has a decent weight to it. It takes a while to heat up, but once it does heat up, it works great. I have found it useful for small home crafting projects.

Right out of the box, it cut and sealed 90 three strand splice ends very quickly and efficiently. There are a total of 1920 cuts to be made over the next month with this hot knife just on one job. Going to give it a run for its money. 👍🏼

Works very well once i found the nob to raise the heat. Great tool. Fast heating.

While this is designed for use in cutting synthetic rope, I’m using it for a different purpose, to cut rigid foam board. In the past I’ve been using a modified soldering gun and a DIY metal string cutter. While I’ll still use the string cutter, due to its abilty to cut very large items, this heat cutter is perfect for my needs in doing smaller and more intricate things. Temperature control is important and this does that well.5 stars.Note: I have been an Amazon customer for almost 20 years. I write all of my reviews to reflect my personal observations and opinions on a product. It matters not if I have purchased the item myself or if it was provided to me for review. My goal is to provide other potential customers as much real-world knowledge as possible to make an informed decision. In most cases I will return to my review in 6 months or less to see if I should alter my original observations. In no case will the cost of a product influence my opinions at all. In addition, I will try to include multiple images and or videos on each product, if practical.

To dispose of the styrofoam packaging I've accumulated over the year, I decided to use this hot knife. Cutting down styrofoam packaging or shipping coolers with a razor knife was more of a hassle than anticipated. That was a pleasant surprise!Most foam products give off harmful vapors; therefore, you must first use it in a well-ventilated environment. Keep a firm grip on this instrument and watch where you put it down. When it becomes hot enough, it can do substantial damage to skin without causing fatal bleeding because it acts as a cauterizer.I spent two days cutting all of my styrofoam down into little cubes that I can use for packing and shipping, and for use in potting plants in the large containers, and it really does work well; I found myself playing with it as I was cutting down the big foam blocks, experimenting with it; getting creative and carving alphabet letters and animal silhouettes out of the styrofoam.It's a great way to recycle old foam into something useful again. When I need to chop down additional foam, I can just bring out the tool and get to work.This device eliminates the problem of Styrofoam beads clinging to surfaces and people.
