I got these to stretch some rigger boots in for work, they length of the upward part of the boot is about the same as the handles, so I put them in, then hit a major snag, basically, the mechanism (dif?) that transforms the vertical into the horizontal locks up on itself when trying to screw them over an angle of about 65 degrees.All fine and dandy if you had, say, ankle type boots, but for anything deeper, just forget it, it's not happening, and the only result when you can get them to do full rotations is that the things end up being half in and half out around the ankle area, because that's the only position where you can get a turnable angle.I'm not saying they don't work, because they probably do, but, there is a limit on the type of boot you can use them, which you probably can find cheaper, and the product image that shows them at 90degrees is misleading, because in that position, it's probably only possible to turn them a quarter of the way.

We used to have a shoe stretcher years ago but it was quite basic in comparison to these. Sadly, I think our old basic one was a bit easier and more effective to use. You get two stretchers here, each suitable for shoes or boots thanks to the long, jointed metal bar that opens and closes the stretcher. They look bulky because they are. They also look a bit creepy to me, like dolls shoes from a puppet.It does come with extras like bunion pads if you need them but otherwise using the stretcher is somewhat straightforward. For some reason unknown to me, these have an on/off button on the foot part for height, but it’s not actually labelled so you can’t tell which way is on and which way is off. You need to push the button across when you want to use it. This is where we had the first problems as the buttons on the ones I received are really hard to use. The second stretcher’s button doesn’t seem to want to work at all. If / when you can put it to the ‘on’ position, put it inside your footwear and start turning the bar from the top to open the stretcher out.They do work in theory but they are very big, very clunky. I’d personally want something smaller unless I have boots to stretch. The bar can’t be folded at the angle that would make the stretcher a little flatter and easier to store, so it’ll always stick out. It is quite rugged though so it seems well made in terms of the bar design and foot part, just not the toggle switch on top. It’s not as easy as it seems to use it either as you need to get the bar at the right position and it’s awkward to move it as the bar drops as opposed to being fixed in position. The foot part can also slip down heeled footwear a bit, so keep that in mind so you’re stretching the right part.So all in all, I’ve mixed feeling about these but I’m not keen personally. I still prefer a basic wooden stretcher because these were just a bit too fiddly, too bulky, and the on/off toggle buttons don’t seem to work easily either.
