It's indeed smaller than the DL200 so full size amps like the A90 won't fit (though the A30Pro fits great). There's no high gain mode, just a single one. There's no 4/5 volt switch like was confirmed. Volume control is in decibels (-99 to 0) and not the usual 0-99 on the DL200. It's got a no oversampling filter with the others, I just kept it on the default for now. The plugs on the front are pretty recessed, so thick connectors might have clearance issues. It runs ice cold, even under heavy load for an hour or so. I ran different file formats like DSF (SACD) and it handled them well with the current SMSL driver in Foobar2000. The 4.4mm jack is smooth now, previous models have been pretty scratchy inserting a plug until worn in.One nice thing is there's no tick/pop when switching bit rates like on the DL200 and D-6s, so speaker people rejoice. All the rest checks out, Bluetooth 5.1 works well, but didn't try the HDMI yet. Coax and Optical is smooth even with a cheap Sybasonic I use to test for functionality. Noise floor is silent when pausing a song with 18 ohm IEMs and turning the volume up to listen for a hiss, nothing to hear. I'll believe the power rating when I see measurements, I remember the DL200 in high gain being a lot more impressive. If I was going to pair this to an amplifier, it would be the Drop SMSL HO150x which would easily fit, and has twice the power. I have an H300 and H400 but doubt those or the A90 are going to fit on it.It sounds great, and I'm sure this will measure really well. I just don't know why they made it smaller when the XLR plugs on the back are larger than the DL200 with it's 1/4" balanced outputs. One really nice feature is the volume wheel is so far away from the headphone jacks, no chance you'll run into them. The wheel is smooth, but has soft clicks for each DB change. Overall it's really nice, but if you plan to put a full size amp on it, check the ruler measurements I did to make sure it'll fit. It uses the standard RC-8C remote that comes with many of their other things. As you can see, the XLR connectors are upside down, so short 6" interconnects won't work, 1ft or longer are best so you have some room to twist them.It's a great value for a 5.2 volt DAC with XLR and not 1/4" RCA if you have a ton of XLR cables already. The display turns off completely with an adjustable timeout. People with speakers will like this a lot more than the DL200 or D-6s, which make a slight pop when switching bit rates. This is a different chipset and is silent when switching. Also the 4.4mm connector is smooth on this one, other recent models like the M300SE and DL200 felt pretty "grindy" rough when inserting a plug. If it's not enough power down the road, the Drop SMSL HO150x or Topping A30Pro are my top choices to sit on top of it.The only mystery or reason not to buy it, is the single gain stage. Without a high gain, I can nearly max out the volume when equalizing my Hifiman Deva Pro Wired (basically it's the stealth driver version of the HE5XX). I'm going to run some volume measurements with others I have with the same claimed power output. It just seems more like 1 watt into 32 ohm, but I'll soon find out. Normale bzw. effiziente Kopfhörer spielen schon bei -40 bis -35 dB wirklich laut. Was zeigt, wie viel Reserve bis zur Maximallautstärke (0 dB) der Verstärker hat. Dabei ist in den meisten Fällen die Reserve und die hohe Dynamik, die dem DL100 zur Verfügung steht das bewundernswerte und gar nicht die durchschnittliche Leistungsabgabe selbst. Die wird nur bei besonders hochohmigen Kopfhörern relevant. Wichtig für den analogen Output ist die Qualität des DAC und die ist top, absolut sauber und präzise.Der DL100 punktet nicht nur mit Leistung und Qualität, sondern auch mit guter Bedienung. Ein Drehregler, der gleichzeitig als Knopf fungiert, ermöglicht es, Eingabe- und Ausgabequellen schnell und unkompliziert zu wechseln oder kleinere Einstellungen vorzunehmen. Das geht schnell und einfach von der Hand. Zusätzlich gibt es noch die Fernbedienung, die wirklich optional ist. Sie wird sehr praktisch, wenn man den DAC-Verstärker nicht auf dem Schreibtisch, sondern z.B. am Fernseher platziert hat. Durch das einfache Display mit großen Zeichen kann man auch im Wohnzimmer erkennen, was man da gerade einstellt.Bei der Kompatibilität wurde aus meiner Sicht auch alles richtig gemacht. Der USB-C-Anschluss für die Verbindung zum PC oder andere Geräte ist modern und zeitgemäß. Die optische und koaxiale Buchse sind natürlich nach wie vor willkommen und je nach Setup wirklich praktisch. Die HDMI-ARC Buchse, die man von vielen Soundbars kennt, ist dagegen schon etwas Besonderes. Will man den DL100 im Wohnzimmer am Fernseher nutzen, ist es eine fantastische Anschlussmöglichkeit. Dazu kommt noch der drahtlose Bluetooth-Input, der dank aptxHD und LDAC nicht nur eine obligatorische Dreingabe, sondern wirklich gut nutzbar ist.Das integrierte Netzteil hat den Vorteil, dass kein sperriger Netzadapter an der Steckdose benötigt wird und jedes Kaltgerätekabel verwendet werden kann.Was die Audioausgänge angeht, sowohl an der Vorderseite für den Kopfhörer als auch an der Rückseite bietet DL100 sinnvolle Alternativen. Nicht nur das, per Setting kann man wählen, was man ansteuern möchte. Single Ended (Cinch) und Balanced (XLR) an der Rückseite einzeln ansteuern oder beide zusammen oder nur den Kopfhörerausgang an der Vorderseite. Dadurch wird der DL100 im analogen Bereich zu einem kleinen Hub, mit dem man verschiedene Ausgabegeräte organisieren kann. Die sinnvolle Variabilität geht an der Vorderseite weiter. Für Kopfhörer kann man die allseits bekannte 6,35 mm Buchse nutzen oder die 4,4 mm Buchse, die als symmetrischer Anschluss in den letzten Jahren große Bedeutung erlangt hat.Die kleinen “negativen” PunkteDie Optik des Geräts ist im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen Eigenschaften kein Highlight. Es ist nicht hässlich aber es ist klar die unauffällige schwarze Box im Hintergrund.Ein Punkt, der mich anfangs verwirrt hat, ist, dass die Ausgangseinstellung „ALL“ nicht für alle Ausgänge gilt, sondern nur für die Rückseite. Um ein Signal an die Kopfhörer zu senden, muss man die Einstellung auf „HPA“ ändern. Es ist schon sinnvoll so wie es ist, aber ein bisschen schade ist es dennoch, dass man nicht Kopfhörer und Rückseite gleichzeitig bespielen kann.Letzter Punkt ist, das Gerät wird doch etwas warm. Wenn man die Fernbedienung drauflegt, merkt man schon, dass sie etwas erwärmt wurde, wenn man sie mal wieder in die Hand nimmt. Wärme heißt auch immer etwas Idle-Verbrauch, wobei in dem Fall liegt es auch daran, dass das Netzteil eben im Gerät ist und nicht an der Steckdose. Von daher ist es nicht schlimm, aber ich versuche daran zu denken, das Gerät auszustellen, wenn ich es nicht nutze.FazitEin tolles Gerät, sehr durchdacht, sinnvolle Anschlussoptionen, gute einfache Bedienung, unauffällige Optik, hohe Ausgangsleistung, top Audioqualität. Bis auf zwei Kleinigkeiten kann ich wirklich nichts finden, an dem ich im Entferntesten herummeckern könnte.

2024 is the year of the China budget dac's . It outperforms older dac's costing 4 x or more. This one sounds like the Fiio r2r dac in Non Oversampling Mode (pcm filter F5). The bonus about this DAC it comes with a remote control and Bluetooth. The single end rca pre-outs aren't as robust as the fiio r2r. I'm using a class A pre-amp in between the dac and a 2ch amp which takes it to another level of sound quality. CD's ripped into WAV 64bit floating point onto a NVME(QLC 4 bit sounds better than TLC) using foobar2000 opensource app. It's has way less jitter than streaming services. Headphone amp sound really good with HD6XX. BTW you might want to invest in Monoprice Monolith USB Digital Audio Cable - USB A to USB B, and a usb c adaptor, work's well with this DA. If money not a problem get the NEO by Oyaide D+ USB Class A.

Mit vier CS43131-Chips sorgt er für eine hervorragende Soundwiedergabe, die sowohl im PCM- als auch im DSD-Format überzeugt. Die Möglichkeit, PCM-Digitalaudio direkt bei 32bit/768kHz abzutasten, ohne Abstriche bei der Abtastrate zu machen, ist ein echtes Highlight.Die Verstärkerschaltung für den 6,35-mm- und 4,4-mm-Kopfhöreranschluss ist hervorragend. Die gesteigerte Ausgangsleistung im Vergleich zur Vorgängergeneration macht sich deutlich bemerkbar, meine Kopfhörer laufen jetzt mit einem viel kraftvolleren und klareren Klang. Besonders gefällt mir, dass ich den DL100 sowohl mit Spielekonsolen als auch mit verschiedenen anderen Geräten über die Dual-Modus-USB-Anschlüsse anschließen kann. Die einfache Umschaltung zwischen USB 2.0 und 1.1 ist ein weiteres Plus, da sie eine flexible Nutzung ermöglicht.Insgesamt ist der SMSL DL100 eine ausgezeichnete Wahl für Audiophile, die Wert auf hohe Klangqualität und vielseitige Anschlussmöglichkeiten legen.
