These ceramic plates are sturdy and thick, and should be durable with many years of use if cared for. The glazed blue parts are raised over the off-white parts, and the off-white ceramic has a very slight pinkish shade to them over the traditional pure white color. The effect is a kind of pastel modern equivalent of the 1970s color scheme for kitchens and a retro feel. It is pleasant to look at in use and in the cabinet, and they stack well, though they have subtle irregularities that make them appear unique and distinctive. The whitish areas are slightly grainy, which helps grip food so it doesn't slide off the plate. Now you can have your salad on a plate and it won't end up in your lap as you chase it around with a fork (depending on your skill level with salad-eating). These would be a good gift for anyone who enjoys pastel dishes, modern ceramic glaze, or has a 1970's style dinnerware collection.

The surface of these is lates follows the design, with indentations following the white pattern. I still love them, though.
