Recently when ordering hats or headgear I've tried to find items for "big heads" which has worked out. Well, I'll be swimming a lot now that warmer weather is here and my old rubber swim cap tore up last summer. I thought I'd give this cloth swim cap for big heads a shot. BIG mistake! I need a swim cap for big heads, not EXTREMELY big heads. This cap is so loose on my head that I can slip all ten fingers under the band. I'm not completely disappointed with the fit, but I am afraid that it may be too loose to use for swimming. I fear the cap may come off and float away without me feeling it while I'm swimming. I don't think I wear swim caps for the same reason as most people who wear them; for me I'm not worried about my hair getting wet so I'm open to a fabric cap. But, I would like more a of a snug fit. I suppose I needed one for big heads, not biggest head.

I wanted a swim cap to keep my shoulder length, thick curly hair from getting in my face as I lap swim this summer. Ponytails help, but inevitably hair gets loose, and it annoys me.From my swim team days back in high school, I remember the only swim cap that I ever really liked was the one fabric one I had.Do these kind of caps keep your hair dry? Of course not. They’re made out of swimsuit fabric. Do they feel loads more comfortable than silicone or latex swim caps? Yep!Fabric caps are also a lot easier to put on, and a lot less prone to ripping on you.I ordered this particular fabric cap in black, size large, and it fit my 23” noggin near perfectly. If it went down over my ears another half inch, it would be even better, but it’s a close thing. The best part about this cap is it feels the right level of snugness around my forehead. It’s not so loose that it’s in any danger of falling off mid-swim, and it’s also not so constricting that it will leave deep cap lines on my forehead after an hour in the pool.I’m looking forward to working out with this thing!

As someone with a 24” head, medium length hair just past my shoulders, I could squeeze my head into the cap and tuck a short ponytail in but it doesn’t feel super secure. I think the Large size could be slightly larger (same elastic part with just a little more fabric), but overall it is stretchy and seems comfortable to wear.

When on my hols I do like to spend hours in the sea looking at the marine life. There is a drawback to this and that is, unless you take care, you are susceptible to sunburn. One time, although I had covered torso, neck and legs, I hadn't thought to protect my head and the back of my head did get a bit overdone. Never again! This swimming cap is pretty much ideal for protecting the back of my head from burning as I pass away an hour or two in the sea. It is well made with a material that has a good deal of stretch and does feel very comfortable when on. But, just as important , is it is billed as being protective against sunburn!A secondary use for me is as a headcovering when at home when the sun isn't shining but there may be frost on the ground. I never use my central heating as I don't like the dry heat that plays havoc with my nasal passages. Instead I put on an extra layer of clothing. I always like to wear a fairly thin cap and I often like my ears uncovered as I listen to music or watch a film. This cap is ideal as I can wear it ears covered or uncovered and also, a big plus, is that it is breathable and so my head stays dry and not clammy. This is a good cap for my needs and will see a lot of use. Whether it justifies it's price of £12.99 is up for debate. I happen to think that it is right at the top of it's price point.
